Pheasants for 2022 - Still some capacity to sell!

Welcome to

Colchicus Pheasant Farm

Our journey to intensive pheasant breeding began in 1976. It was the first year in which there was a significant decline in the number of wild pheasant game in the Czech lands and the response to this decline was an effort to supplement the missing wildlife artificially bred pheasants.

The pioneering years of artificial breeding of pheasants were full of enthusiasm, but they were also accompanied by a number of bad decisions, lack of practical experience and much of the knowledge gained was dearly paid for by unnecessary deaths of reared or released pheasants.

Collection of eggs from pruned or endangered nests, continuous hatching in small hatcheries, experiments using domestic poultry for rearing pheasant chickens or releasing reared pheasants without adapting aviaries were later replaced by a system of laying spurs with subsequent large-capacity hatcheries, 7 to 8 weeks rearing with a capacity of several hundred pieces of pheasant chickens on one tour and the first adaptation discharge aviary.

An important period was the years 1984 to 2004, when Pavel Forejtek was in charge of hunting operation of the Židlochovice forest plant, whose tradition of hunting pheasants goes back to the beginnings of pheasantry in the Czech lands. In the last two decades of the last century, the LZ Židlochovice significantly intensified the rearing of pheasants, a modern hatchery system was built, new rearing of young pheasants and developed a system to convert artificially bred pheasants to freedom, respectively, into the pheasantry environment.

The experience of twenty years of operation of one of the largest pheasantry subjects in Central Europe was the basis for building a private farm Colchicus s.r.o. in Borkovany, which began in 2006 with the reconstruction of the former agricultural cooperative buildings. Gradually, in the first phase, two large-scale halls with adjoining external aviaries were put into operation, allowing the rearing of approximately 25,000 young pheasants. In the follow-up phase, two other smaller buildings were reconstructed for pheasantry breeding, and in 2019 the third hall was completed, bringing the total rearing capacity to a total of 40,000 pheasants.

Since 2019 Colchicus s.r.o. a family company, when the share was bought from the original partner and Petr Forejtek joined the company.
